Storage Instructions

All Hanobi Peptides™ products are supplied as lyophilized (freeze-dried) peptides, a pharmaceutical-grade preservation method widely used in peptide, protein, and biologic research to maximize molecular stability, shelf life, and transport integrity.

Why Lyophilization Is Used

Lyophilization is a controlled dehydration process in which the peptide solution is first frozen and then subjected to reduced pressure, allowing water to be removed via sublimation (transition from solid directly to vapor). This process minimizes hydrolytic degradation, limits molecular mobility, and preserves peptide conformation.

Extensive pharmaceutical and clinical research literature has demonstrated that lyophilization significantly improves the stability of peptides and biologics compared to liquid formulations, particularly by:

  • Reducing chemical degradation pathways such as hydrolysis and deamidation
  • Limiting aggregation and structural instability
  • Improving long-term storage stability and reproducibility
  • Enabling safe transport without continuous cold-chain dependence

As a result, lyophilization is the standard storage format for many FDA-approved peptide- and protein-based therapeutics, investigational drugs, and clinical trial materials, as well as research-grade reagents.

The resulting product appears as a dry, white to off-white crystalline or amorphous powder, which remains chemically stable until reconstituted.

Storage Prior to Reconstitution

Upon receipt, lyophilized peptides should be:

  • Stored in a cool, dry environment
  • Protected from light, moisture, and temperature fluctuations

For optimal stability, refrigerated storage at or below 4 °C (39 °F) is recommended once the product has been delivered. While lyophilized peptides are generally stable at room temperature for limited periods, refrigeration provides an added margin of protection against degradation, particularly for longer storage durations.

If the peptide is expected to be used within a short timeframe (weeks to a few months), refrigerated storage is typically sufficient.

Storage After Reconstitution

Once the peptide has been reconstituted using an appropriate solvent (commonly bacteriostatic water or another research-grade diluent), stability characteristics change significantly due to the presence of water.

After reconstitution:

  • Store the solution under refrigeration (≤4 °C / 39 °F)
  • Protect from light exposure
  • Avoid agitation and repeated freeze–thaw cycles, which may accelerate degradation

Under proper laboratory handling conditions, reconstituted peptides are typically stable for up to 30 days. Stability may vary depending on concentration, solvent, handling practices, and experimental conditions.

Long-Term Storage

For extended storage periods (several months to years), lyophilized peptides should be stored frozen, ideally at:

  • −80 °C (−112 °F) for maximum long-term stability

Deep-freeze storage is well supported by peptide stability studies and pharmaceutical best practices, as it further reduces molecular motion and chemical reaction rates, preserving peptide integrity over time.

General Handling Guidance

  • Always allow frozen vials to equilibrate to room temperature before opening to prevent moisture condensation
  • Use sterile, research-grade materials for reconstitution
  • Label reconstituted solutions clearly with date and concentration
  • Follow institutional laboratory protocols and good research practices
